If you are interested in adopting a pet:
- If you see a pet online that you are interested in adopting, please call ahead to make sure that the pet is still available. Please note the pet's i.d. number. It will help to identify the specific pet. We do not place holds on pets. Pets are adopted on a first come, first served basis.
- Potential adopters (over 18-years of age) who live in a family residence, please discuss with staff your living arrangements prior to adoption.
- For potential dog adopters with existing dogs, there is a mandatory introduction prior to adoption. If you are interested in adopting a dog, and have other pets at home, please make staff aware prior to adoption.
- The adoption fee for most pets is $35, plus the cost of the spay or neuter surgery (price set by contracting veterinarian), and a licensing fee for dogs (if applicable).
- Methods of payment that we can accept are: exact change cash, money order, checks (with current address imprinted on check and valid ID, local residents only). We are also now able to accept most major credit cards! (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover).
- If you are missing your own lost pet, please visit the shelter in person. Do not rely on this website. Pets are not posted on this website until their legal holding period has ended. This means that there are always more pets at the shelter than are currently listed online.
Dog Licensing
We license dogs for the city of Dublin, and all unincorporated areas of Alameda County. You may purchase a license by mail, by printing an application and mailing it in along with requested documents. Or you may purchase a license in person during regular shelter business hours.
Fluffy Dog Friday!
Do you like big, fluffy dogs? Well you're in luck, because we tend to have a bunch of them! From now until... further notice, we'll be waiving adoption fees for Shepherds and Huskies on Fridays! Mixes and Malinois too! MAY be combined with other offers!
*$35 adoption fee waived. Dog licensing fee and spay or neuter fee may still apply.
Senior Sundays!
Each Sunday adoption fees are waived for pets aged 7 years and older, and their spay or neuter surgery will be sponsored by our friends at the Tri Valley Animal Rescue!
Available Animals:
Breed and age are approximate guesses to the best of our ability. We cannot guarantee the health or temperament of any pet. Most of our available pets arrive as strays with no history.
Adopt a Barn Cat!
Are you looking for some rodent control for your barn, shop, or other property? We have feral cats who are looking for employment!
"Barn cats" or "working cats" are cats who are typically unsocialized to people, and are generally not accustomed to living indoors. They aren't really suitable to be adopted out as pets, but they do still need a safe place to call home, where they will be provided with fresh water and food, and shelter from inclement weather and predators. In exchange, they will help provide you with rodent control!
To help cats adapt more successfully to a new location, we ask that you take at least two cats, and there is a brief acclimation process in which they are initially kept more contained. Our staff can help walk you through it! If you're interested in learning more, or think that you're ready for some cats, please give us a call at 925-803-7040 and ask for V. Erickson, our current barn cat coordinator.
Please note that while we almost always have feral or semi-feral cats in need of placement, they aren't always ready to go immediately (some may still need to be spayed or neutered), so please call ahead first!
Volunteer with us!
We always have a need for more volunteers to help us help our pets! Opportunities for adults include walking dogs and socializing cats. Our shelter volunteer program is managed by our friends at the Tri-Valley Animal Rescue! For more information and to sign up, please visit their website!
